President and CEO
Alex Balkanski is an industry leader with a demonstrated record of delivering growth in revenue and profits in tandem with outstanding customer satisfaction. Prior to joining Picarro, Alex was a managing partner at Benchmark Capital and served on the board of directors at Picarro. Alex led C-Cube and DiviCom, two pioneering companies that drove the MPEG standard to dominance in consumer electronics and broadcasting. Alex founded C-Cube in 1988. In 1994, he took the company public, and in 1998 he orchestrated C-Cube’s acquisition of DiviCom. Previously, he was a board member of Ambarella (AMBA), Decru (acquired by Network Appliance), Entrisphere (acquired by Ericsson), and Infinera (INFN). Alex holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Harvard University, as well as a B.S. from Harvard College.
Jan Willem Poelmann
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Science
Jan Willem Poelmann is responsible for global sales and marketing activities for our scientific instruments business. He has experience in international sales, marketing, alliance and partnership management of innovative high technology products in public as well as start-up environments. Before moving to headquarters in Santa Clara, Jan Willem lead Picarro’s European and Asia Pacific sales and operations. Jan Willem previously was with Juniper Networks, where he was responsible for the Service Provider Alliance business in EMEA from 2005-2010. Prior to Juniper, Jan Willem held various executive sales and marketing positions at Dell, Corvis Corporation, and Nortel Networks. Jan Willem received his B.A. and M.B.A. from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Vice President, R&D and Hardware Engineering
Yonggang leads the research and development team, as well as the systems, hardware and instrumentation software engineering groups. He works closely with Picarro’s business units to define technology strategy, research and development priorities and execute the product development roadmap. Prior to joining Picarro Yonggang held various senior engineering roles at NewFocus, Oclaro and LGR. Yonggang received his B.S., MS in physical chemistry and his Ph.D. in spectroscopy from Nanjing University and Oregon State University respectively. He was a Postdoctoral Scholar at California Technology Institute.
Vice President, Operations
Tony brings decades of solid operations experience to the Picarro team, having previously worked as Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at Calix (CALX). He also spent ten years in various roles at Cisco, including Vice President of Worldwide Operations and several years as Vice President of Manufacturing at Grand Junction Networks. Tony has served in numerous senior management positions, including Vice President of Manufacturing at Vitalink Communications Corporation and Teledyne MEC. Mr. Banta holds an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University, a M.S. in aeronautical engineering from Wichita State University and a B.S. in aeronautics from San Jose State College. Mr. Banta served ten years in the United States Air Force.
Vice President, Sales, Europe, Middle-East, Africa
Andre is responsible for sales and business development in Europe, the Middle-East and Africa for our scientific instruments, energy and semiconductor businesses. Prior to joining Picarro, Andre worked at Arthur Anderson Consulting in Geneva. He later founded Omnisens, a technology start-up active in asset integrity management of large energy infrastructures, including downstream pipeline leak detection, offshore umbilicals and power cable monitoring. He helped develop a trace gas technology which monitors environmental and semiconductor molecular contamination. Andre has held several executive positions at Picarro with experiences in corporate strategy, sales, marketing, operations and finance. Andre holds an M.A. in materials and engineering from Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne and University of California, Los Angeles.
Vice President, Marketing
Tom has a long history in the semiconductor and electronics industry. Prior to joining Picarro in September, 2015, Tom held roles as Vice President of Sales at eSilicon, Senior Director of Marketing at Synaptics and General Manager of the ASIC business at Philips Semiconductor. Tom has also held positions at Mentor Graphics, VLSI Technology, Digital Equipment Corporation and Fairchild Semiconductor. At Picarro, he is responsible for all science and energy marketing strategy. Tom holds a B.A. in materials engineering from the University of Illinois and has participated in executive education at Stanford University.
Vice President, Human Resources
Dan has over twenty-five years of experience in human resources at companies including Johnson & Johnson, Citicorp, Raychem, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Adaptec and The Quicksilver Group. He has also held the role of Vice President of Human Resources at five different start-ups. Prior to joining Picarro in July, 2015, Dan owned his own human resources consulting firm, providing human resources support to over 100 clients. Dan received his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy and his M.B.A. from Columbia University.
Associate General Counsel
Brad has over fifteen years of experience representing technology companies in Silicon Valley. He he has worked at companies including NorthPoint Communications, iPass (IPAS), Omneon, Harmonic (HLIT), and Voltage Security. Brad is a graduate of Duke University and the Washington University School of Law.
Vice President, Finance
Betsy has over twenty-five years of experience in accounting and finance. Prior to joining Picarro, she was Vice President of Finance at Talari, a private networking company. She started her career in technology company audit practice at Pricewaterhouse and has held management positions in finance at Hewlett Packard in both printer and personal computer manufacturing and supply chain operations. She spent 10 years as an independent consultant at various technology companies providing a wide range of finance and accounting services, from project management to corporate controller. Betsy received her B.S. in business administration with a concentration in accounting from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
